How Do I Create My Own TV Show?

We have found that many people have great ideas for TV shows but they don't get any further than having an idea. They question themselves: "What do I have to do? I don't have fancy video equipment. I feel a bit intimidated."

So, you may be wondering, what exactly do I need to do to turn my idea into a TV show? To answer that, let's look at what Media Network can do to assist you.

To get started, schedule a few workshops with us to learn how to use the equipment in our studio. We offer a variety of workshops:

  1. Orientation - This workshop will give you a tour of our facility and explain our rules of use. It will also give a brief overview of the equipment that is available to you.

  2. Camera - This workshop will take an in-depth look at the cameras we use as well as teach you about different techniques available to a camera operator to convey the intended message. An overview of lighting, audio and directing are also included.

  3. Studio - This workshop will put together all technical aspects of filming a studio show. We will set up a studio shoot and allow each participant to get hands on experience in each role of camera operator, audio engineer, director and talent.

  4. Editing - This workshop will give you enough editing knowledge to make you dangerous! The main editing software we teach is Sony Vegas Pro but we are also able to accommodate requests to learn Adobe Premiere.

Once you have taken these classes you can begin to script (put your exact ideas) on paper. You will probably want to have a pre-production meeting with your talent and crew to plan out the shoot. Crew? We have many volunteers who would like to help you crew your show and we can provide you contact information. The next step would be to schedule time in the studio. We allocate a two hour time slot for a 1/2 hour show. After you have your footage for the show, you can begin to edit it or if you aren't quite comfortable with editing yet, Media Network staff is available to assist you. Once your show is complete, let us know and we will find days/times to broadcast it on Comcast Channel 10 and AT&T U-verse Channel 99. We will also upload it to our On-Demand server. Stop in or give us a call and we would be happy to help you get started on your adventure of creating your own TV show!
